Signs of Solidarity with Lorna and Adam from Gobbledegook Theatre
15 April 2021
In October 2019 we had our first meeting with Sophie and Sue at The Spring about a proposal for Here and Now, a project which was to happen across 40 arts centres in the UK. It was to be a celebration of community and of talking to people about the role and future of arts centres. We proposed to buy a large pedicab (the sort which act as people-powered taxis all around central London) which we’d ride about the town whilst chatting with people, picking up their laundry, doing school runs and finding out about the communities’ feelings about their local arts centre: The Spring. Part of the work was inspired by the cycle group who met outside the arts centre every week but who never actually came in the building. We wanted to make relationships, find out things and imagined that we’d probably get rather fit in the process.
The Spring is delighted to have been awarded £47,000 from the government’s Culture Recovery Fund Round 2
2 April 2021
This week we have been delighted to hear that we have been awarded funding from the second round of the government’s Culture Recovery Fund. This funding is addition to that which we received in 2020. The new funding will support our work from April to June 2021, including contributing to the costs of reopening our building in May 2021. The Spring originally closed in March 2020 to delay virus transmission. Since then we have only been able to open our building for 10 weeks, during which time we presented performances, exhibitions and workshops along with our magical Enchanted Snow Globe event. We can’t wait to throw open the doors and welcome our community back!
Some Big Questions
2 April 2021
At The Spring we love to hear when people have enjoyed an event or have tried something new. We like meeting our visitors, hearing what you think and smiling at passers-by. We also want to know where we could do better. We are really interested in starting conversations and making connections between people. Simply, we are interested in people – you – and how we can serve and build a better relationship with everyone in our community. The Spring isn’t, after all, owned by the staff or trustees. It belongs to everyone, so we want to matter to you.
One year on
17 March 2021
It’s been a year. A big, scary, confusing year. One of too much time, too many tears and hours of wondering what the future will be. It’s been being awake at 3am, it’s been missing hugs. And it has sadly seen us lose friends along the way.
