Open day promises the best about The Spring

Variety is what makes Jump In! such a special day – and The Spring such a special place.

Take the plunge! Join us at our open day for a selection of performances and workshops which showcase what is best about The Spring. We have tried to keep prices as low cost as possible so that everyone can jump in and enjoy the day.

Jump In! is a non-stop assortment of theatre, workshops, music, laughter, art and dance for both children and adults from 10am until late.

Headlining these high-quality events on Saturday 5 October is Frisky and Mannish: PopLab. This double act bends popular music to its will and produces a show that is witty, hilarious and hugely entertaining.

The music in PopLab is top notch – this talented pair have great voices. They seamlessly blend pop-music genres as they put the industry under the microscope.

Compelling and powerful theatre

Mitch Benn, formerly of Radio 4’s The Now Show, will be adding to the comedic flavour with Ten Songs to Save the World.

But variety is what makes Jump In! such a special day – and The Spring such a special place.

It’s True, It’s True, It’s True, is a contemporary take on a rape trial from 1612 and tells how a woman took revenge through her art to become one of the most successful painters of her generation. It’s a powerful piece of theatre with three compelling performances by the cast.

We’ll keep you thinking with Daniel Bye: The Price of Everything. It comes under the category of a “performance lecture”, but is comic, impassioned and provocative. Not to be missed.

Unicorns and tall stories

There’s always plenty for children at The Spring so it’s no surprise that kids of all ages get a chance to sample theatre and story-telling at its best.

Danyah Miller, a skilled raconteur, performs a children’s modern classic. I Believe in Unicorns is based on the story by Michael Morpurgo, one of Britain’s best-loved writers for the young.

It’s a stimulating and spellbinding experience: anyone who loves books, stories and tall tales should make this a priority.

Miller later leads a workshop for those looking to improve their story-telling skills.

Babies and parents will love Kaleidoscope; under-10s will enjoy our Family Craft sessions. There’s an art tutor challenge – two of our art teachers go head to head and draw on our museum’s heritage items for inspiration.

We’ve got the written word, lectures on wild cats, light opera, two local theatre groups and ballroom and Latin dance class taster sessions. There’s also The Spitfire Sisters, an internationally acclaimed jazz trio and a favourite at The Spring.

It promises to be an amazing day – so come and Jump In! at The Spring.
