We are always interested to hear from artists who would like to display their work as part of our exhibition programme.
We choose work based on the quality of the work and its suitability for our space and our audience. We do not hire our gallery space for exhibitions.
Exhibitions are usually booked 9 – 18 months in advance and we look for exhibitions that are suitable for part of our standard programme. Our exhibition programme usually consists of the following:
Local Artists’ Showcase
Usually the first exhibition of the year, this is a show by a local artist or group of artists. We look for wall based work and 3d work for the cabinets.
Every year we invite artists to submit work for our themed Open Exhibition. Entries usually open in autumn each year and details can be found on the website when we are excepting submissions.
An exhibition by an artist with a regional or national profile.
The best work produced by students from universities and colleges along the South Coast.
Our Christmas exhibition is a selling exhibition featuring handmade art and crafts. For practical reasons of space and security we cannot exhibit large sculptures or furniture except as part of this exhibition.
Our Jewellery cabinets at the front of the gallery display handmade jewellery items that are available for sale. We particularly look for work that is handmade and of original design. You can download further information about the requirements for jewellery here.
The Mezzanine features heritage inspired exhibitions, commissions and for exhibitions that directly relate to projects managed by The Spring.
If you believe you have an exhibition or an idea that may fit with any area of our exhibitions programme please contact: email@example.com

When making an exhibition proposal please help us by including the following:
- Your full contact details
- Which exhibition you’d like your work to be considered for
- A CV detailing your exhibition and any other exhibitions
- A statement explaining in your work/idea, why you think this fits with our programme and how it will appeal to our audiences
- Up to 6 jpeg photographs of the work that would be included
- Details of your work including size, medium and prices
Please be aware that outside special commissions we cannot pay artists to exhibit at The Spring. We encourage artists to have all work available for sale, on which The Spring takes a 35% commission.
Also, please be aware that we receive many submissions. Once we have received a proposal via email we will confirm receipt. It may, however, then be several months until we can consider your application. We are sorry that once we have received an application we cannot contact you if we decide not to take your idea further.
