FREE FAMILY FUN DAY BESIDE THE SEASIDE ON HAYLING ISLAND
The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre is holding Beside the Seaside, a free day of fun on Hayling Island for all the family to enjoy.
The one-day arts festival will be taking place on Sunday 15 July from 11am – 3pm on Hayling Island Seafront, to the right of Beachlands (PO11 0AJ). Highlights planned for the day include a live performance experience inside a giant metal Whale, from company Talking Birds, and participatory installation Life Boat, which invites you to sit back in a hammock and enjoy the “slowest ride on Earth”. Sol Cinema will also be pitching up their unique mobile cinema; a solar-powered vintage caravan screening short films complete with a red carpet, usherettes and popcorn to bring back those nostalgic cinema memories.
The Spring will be providing family activities including pirate-themed crafts and games, ahead of our Autumn libraries performance tour, and The Spring’s café will be serving homemade snacks and drinks for when you are feeling peckish. Northney Farm will also be selling their delicious ice-creams which will be perfect to enjoy when relaxing in one of our deckchairs and enjoying views across the Solent. However, make sure to watch out for our giant walkabout seagulls as they might well take a shine to your tasty treats!
Sophie Fullerlove, Centre Director, said:
“Beside the Seaside is a free, one-day arts festival for everyone. The Spring is the arts centre and museum for the borough of Havant and rather than staying in our building all summer we like to get out and about to show local people what we do. We want to celebrate our beautiful seaside borough and introduce ourselves to families, resident and tourists with a day of free fun. We are delighted to be bringing some amazing performances and activities to the day and especially The Whale. It’s an aluminium theatre in the shape of a whale and audiences of all ages sit inside to enjoy a 3-minute show. It’s previously been at some incredible locations including the National Theatre, Coventry Cathedral and Larmer Tree Festival. I’m delighted that we’re bringing it, along with lots of other incredible acts, to Hayling Island this summer.”
Beside the Seaside follows on from The Spring’s free family event in 2017 in Havant Park, Havant at Home. These events are part of The Spring’s Beyond the Walls programme, taking the arts out into the community of Havant Borough for everyone to access and enjoy.
Beside the Seaside is supported by the Garfield Weston Foundation, and The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre is supported by Arts Council England, Havant Borough Council and Hampshire County Council.
