From Victory rolls to Bacon rolls!12 May 2015
Tuesday 8 May 1945 was declared Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Seventy years on from that momentous day, The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre in Havant is celebrating with afree VE Day knees-up for all the family, Let’s Party Like It’s 1945!, on Friday 15 May from 7pm to 12 Midnight!
This special event is being held as The Spring’s contribution to this year’s Museums at Night programme of events. Now in its seventh year, Museums at Night is an annual UK-wide festival which offers the chance to experience culture and heritage in a totally unexpected way.
The wide variety of events planned for Let’s Party Like It’s 1945! include authentic games from the era, live music and dance lessons, opportunities to create Make Do and Mend jewellery, explore authentic 1940s items from The Spring’s museum, meet with local historians to tell your stories of the war, and watch a brand-new theatrical piece from the Havant Drama Club.
Attenders are being encouraged to don their favourite vintage outfits, fix their make-up in classic 1940s style and come to party. There will be music from the Dave Baker Project and the Swing4All band, who will also be demonstrating authentic 40s dance steps so that people can capture that authentic Victory mood.
Finally, at 11.30pm, the event will wrap up with a good old bacon sarnie (but not from the 1940s!)
In 2014, Museums at Night attracted180,000 visits to 700 events in more than 500 venues. Museums at Night 2015 runs from 13 – 16 May. For more information, please visit http://museumsatnight.org.uk
