Press Release: Open Exhibition Winner
The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre is delighted to announce the opening of this year’s Open Exhibition on Tuesday 18 April 2017.
Earlier in the year an invitation was extended to all local artists and craftspeople to contribute their work to an exhibition based around the idea of ‘Our Heritage’. The Spring is an ideal venue for this exhibition, as it is one of the few arts centres in the UK that also houses a museum. Our aim was to bring our heritage stories to life though the medium of the arts, and to explore how our local heritage can inspire artists.
Artists were given the opportunity to submit work in any medium inspired by The Spring’s heritage collection, or by local heritage stories that they were aware of. Photographs of local heritage sites were also accepted.
A special ‘Private View’ was held on Wednesday 19 April, and the winner of the competition for best work on display was announced by Interim Director Jon Woodley. The Open Exhibition winner was Adrian Mundy, with his pieces Bowl, Residue and Straight Lines. Graeme Swain’s Muse Study 1,2 & 3 was highly commended.
The exhibition will be available for viewing until Friday 30 June in the Upper Mezzanine Gallery at the Spring.
