Dan Cruickshank: Memorials of Remembrance
Tickets: £20, £19 concessions
A fascinating and ultimately uplifting talk about the history and importance of war memorials.
2019 commemorates the end of the First World War, which ended with the Treaty of Versailles signed in June 1919. In this talk historian Dan Cruickshank examines the memorials to the British and Imperial dead.
The war memorials were an attempt to do the seemingly impossible – to create cemeteries and memorials that make some sense out of the million deaths, that gave some solace to the grieving and mourning families and that created some sense of peace, order, even solemn beauty.
Dan Cruickshank is an art historian and TV presenter, specialising in architecture.
