Portsmouth Dockyard: Once the Largest Dockyard in the WorldTalk by Philip MacDougall
In the Langstone Room
Supported by a fascinating selection of photographs, Philip will trace some of the many ways in which the Portsmouth Dockyard has changed and developed over time. Starting with the dockyard built by King Richard I, he will cover such milestones as the building of the Victorian dockyard, the launching of the mighty HMS Dreadnought, which was built at the dockyard, as well as a tour of the yard and its naval role. Moving forward through the decades, Philip will also look at the impact of the two World Wars, as well as the Cold War, before bringing the story up-to-date.
