Recuperation and Inspiration: John Keat's visit in 1819

A talk by Hilary Sloane
28 Sep Heritage

Tickets: £6

Poet John Keats was invited to Chichester in 1819 to recuperate following the death of his brother, and spent a few days in the city before moving on to stay close to Stansted House. He found the medieval atmosphere of the cathedral precincts and the old-fashioned streets so inspirational that he immediately began composing one of his most famous epics, The Eve of St Agnes. In this talk, Hilary outlines Keats’s life and his stay in Chichester through quotes from his letters and photos of the places he visited.
