Online Book Group: Hamnet by Maggie O’FarrellLed by Caroline Hammond 12th August
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell is inspired by the short life of Shakespeare’s son Hamnet. Four year’s after his son’s death, the playwright wrote Hamlet, considered by many to be one of his greatest works. The novel, winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2020, focuses not on the 11 year old boy, but on the effect of his death on his parents, especially his mother, the fictionalised Agnes and his father, unnamed in the story. The writing is described as ‘exquisite, immersive and compelling’. The discussion will be led by Caroline Hammond.
