Crooked Heart by Lisa Evans is the story of a ten year old boy evacuated from London to escape the Blitz. He is taken in by Vera Sedge, who, always desperate for money, involves him in her unscrupulous schemes. But there are plenty of other people making money out of the war and some of them are dangerous. Noel may have been moved out of London for safety but he isn’t actually safe at all. ‘Dazzling… A dark comedy, moving between drollery, pathos, farce and harrowing moments of tragic insight’ Guardian.
The discussion will be led by Valerie Bird.
